Jeff Howard’s Background:

Jeff’s background in performance development provides him with knowledge of how professional athletes prepare themselves for competition; giving him an overview of the necessary movement patterns each student-athlete will need to become proficient later on in their development. Learning proper motion mechanics at an early age will minimize the development of bad habits and ease the transition into resistance training. Making the learning process fun for the students will be a major focus. Students who enjoy training will more likely desire to continue the training through the years, as their athletic goals continue to be met.

Jeff’s educational background has provided him with a foundation in athletic development that continues to help him. He attended the University of Massachusetts on a football scholarship. While attending UMASS, he began training athletes to improve strength development under the guidance of Strength Director, Bob Otrondo. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biomechanics, some experience in training athletes, and the desire to learn more about how the human body operates. After returning home to California, Jeff got a job and enrolled at Cal State University, Northridge. At CSUN, he took two courses, Physical Education for Children and Nutrition.

Jeff’s life experience has also provided him with valuable knowledge with regards to performance improvement. As soon as his son Bryce was old enough to play competitive sports, he began coaching. The reward that came with seeing him and all of his teammates improve, became addicting. In addition to coaching youth sports he continued to strength train and eventually teamed up with SPORTSWEST PERFORMANCE. With SPORTSWEST PERFORMANCE, Jeff worked with owner and head strength trainer, Woody Cliffords, training primarily college and professional level athletes. He was able to refine his knowledge of strength training and program design and was also exposed to a new modern philosophy of performance enhancement.
